We are very careful in choosing our breeding stock, and we are rightly proud.
We research all of our new sires and dams thoroughly. It is just simple
reasoning. Quality in, quality out.
We grade our breeding stock by ten criteria. They are conformation, size,
color, wool quality, milkiness, scrapie resistance, temperament, progeny,
prolificacy, parasite resistance, and libido. We look at our sheep differently than many breeders. We
are always looking at what we want to get from a particular ram or ewe, and who
we can pair them up with to achieve that goal. We are generally two years ahead
of the actual matches. In other words, we generally know who we are going to
pair this seasons lambs with, for their first lambs.
What you see in our sires and dams are the top of the crops.
This a beautiful black ram. Has a big deep square body,
a calm studly temperament, and gorgeous fiber. His 10 month lamb fleece
had 16"+ tog, and 12"+ thel. His dam is a
OFFF
champion, very milky (he is a triplet and gained 0.59 lbs. per day on
moms milk). Dam is
prolific (once again he is a triplet), and has strong mothering instincts.
Rambo is parasite resistant, and his lambs have inherited his
resistance.
This a lovely moorit/solid/silver ewe. She is 7/16
leadersheep and has the classic
leadersheep attributes; a taller lankier frame, alertness, and
intelligence. She Also has a fine soft fleece. She carries silvering and
her tog ranges from a
blond to brown. Her thel is brown. Even though she was registered as
polled she has scurs. This sometimes happens when the scurs develop
late. She also carries spotting. It is evident by the faint white blaze
on her nose. Her first lambs proved it too. She also has a high
resistance to parasites
Beauty is very calm and personable. Always the first in line to get
a halter, get to the feed trough, and be petted. She is
black/solid/silver, and has a square solid build. She is a true
sweetheart, and very easy to work with. One of her ram lambs weighed 135
lbs. before reaching a year old.
Cecelia is a great ewe with real attitude. We picked her for her fine genetics, great
conformation, and
exceptional fleece. Her lamb fleece was solid black. Her adult fleece is
black/solid/silver. Her lamb fleece won best of show for Icelandic sheep
from the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival (OOOF), and the Icelandic Sheep
Breeders of North America (ISBONA). Her twin sister
Merlot,
was the Reserve Champion ewe at the
2011 OOOF. Cecelia is parasite resistant. Cecelia is a triplet, and was
acquired specifically to be matched with
Rambo.
Mercy is a beautiful solid moorit ewe. We picked her for her fine
genetics, great conformation, and exceptional fleece. her thel has a
great crimp. more so than is typical for an Icelandic ewe. She is a
triplet, and her mother was well up to the task. She has shown a very
high conversion rate. We have yet to find an equally good moorit ram
to
match her with, but we are looking.
